Join us for a powerful virtual town hall addressing the ongoing pesticide crisis on the Central Coast.
Local activist Omar Dieguez is on a 30-day hunger strike to demand an end to pesticide spraying near schools in the Pajaro Valley. He’s joined by Providence Martinez Alaniz, whose young daughter was exposed to pesticide drift at an afterschool program. Together, they’re calling on local growers—especially Driscoll’s—to shift to organic practices that protect children’s health.
We’ll be joined by:
Dr. Ann Lopez, environmental studies scholar, author of The Farmworker’s Journey, and founder of the Center for Farmworker Families, advocating for the rights and health of farmworker communities.
Yanley Martinez, organizer with Californians for Pesticide Reform and former Greenfield school board trustee, who has led efforts to protect children from pesticide exposure across California.
Sean Dougherty, Green Party candidate for Congress (CA-19), who supports a transition to organic agriculture and stands with farmworkers and families—not corporate pesticide lobbyists.
We’ll cover:
- Why a hunger strike is happening now
- How pesticide exposure is harming our communities
- The history of local resistance
- What political and corporate forces are blocking change
- How we can fight back and protect our children’s health
This is about more than farming—it’s about our future.
