What's Next for the Green Party
No one on this email list is happy with the election results. But there's no time to mourn - there's a lot of work to do. There are still multiple genocides happening around the world, no one with any power is taking climate change seriously, and meanwhile, at home we still have kids in our own community hungry and homeless. No. Our job is not nearly over.
Let's be honest, neither of the 2 corporate parties has shown any inclination of working toward solutions to what ails us. So we NEED a strong alternative.
It won't just happen - we have to make it happen. Here's how you can help.
*If you're not registered Green, we encourage you to do so. People have left the Green Party for the sole reason to "vote in Democratic primaries." Well, then you don't get to decide what happens within the local, state, or national Green Party. It's pretty easy to come back, or join for the first time. There are multiple ways to do it and they're all at https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-registration. Just remember, you have to write in "Green" under party.
*We need new Greens on our State Committee. It involves a meeting, either in person or on Zoom, every 3 months, and getting on an email list.
*We also should have new folks as officers of the local party. In fact, we're overdue for elections. Want to help shape the local party? This is an awesome way to do so.
*We also need some folks to represent the Green Party within a couple of community groups - most notably, the Police Accountability Board Alliance(not the PAB) and the Federation of Monroe County Environmentalists. This involves going to their meetings (mostly on Zoom) and then reporting back at GP meetings.
*But of course, the most important thing the party needs is candidates and volunteers for campaigns. In 2025, most of the races up will be local. Town Board, Village Trustee, School Board, etc., will all be up for election. We do have one declared candidate already, but we need many, many more.
If you're interested in any of these ways to help build the Green Party, email us at [email protected].
And stay tuned! We're working on a holiday party for December. Details are coming!
And speaking of that election... we have not gotten word yet on how many write-in votes Jill Stein received either in New York State or Monroe County. We will spread the word as soon as we hear from the Board of Elections.
But make no mistake, both Jill and her running mate, Butch Ware, have not stopped fighting. Both are still online using their platforms to fight for what we believe in. That's what Greens do.
Did you know that the Witness Palestine Film Festival is back on this year? It starts on Saturday, November 16th and runs through November 24th. Movies will be shown around Rochester at various outlets. It's a great line-up this year.

Here are some online actions you can take to help our area:
*Green candidates have been calling for a Public Utility in Rochester for over a decade. Metro Justice does have a campaign called Rochester for Energy Democracy that aims to create that public utility. They have an online petition calling for a PU to replace RG&E. A welcomed idea and another issue someone could run for office on. Here is their petition: https://www.metrojustice.org/redpetition.
*In solidarity with the Tonawanda Seneca Nation, we are calling for State and Federal officials to honor the 230 year old Treaty of Canandaigua. The treaty upholds Haudenosaunee sovereignty by establishing “a firm and permanent friendship” between the Haudenosaunee and the United States, and enshrines the right of Haudenosaunee to the “free use and enjoyment” of their lands.
Construction of the WNY STAMP mega-industrial site, which lies next to and upstream from the Nation’s pristine Big Woods and waterways including Tonawanda Creek, violates this historic agreement and is being carried out without proper consultation with the Nation’s Council of Chiefs. The Nation and allies call on Federal and State officials to uphold the Treaty of Canandaigua: stop the construction of the WNY STAMP site, safeguard Nation citizens’ free use and enjoyment of their homelands, and protect the Nation’s woods and waterways from further destructive impacts.

*A group of local environmentalists are asking the County of Monroe to make it official policy that chemicals are NOT to be used in our public parks. In 2023, it was announced that the County had not used harmful chemicals and we would like that to be the official practice of Monroe County. Sign the petition at this link.
Thank you for being a part of the Green Party community. Let's finish this year strong and keep that momentum going into the new year!
