Sixteen years ago today, the Supreme Court issued a chilling ruling in Citizens United vs. the Federal Exchange Commission that granted First Amendment rights to corporations, effectively abolishing any legal roadblocks that stood between our democracy and the corporate powers that be.

The Citizens United ruling profoundly reshaped political campaigns – paving the way to flooding both parties of war and Wall Street with billions of dollars in SuperPAC money to do their bidding. From amping up the military industrial complex’s war mongering around the globe, to busting unions here at home, to allowing dangerous pollution to bring us to the brink of climate disaster, to denying millions of Americans access to healthcare, duopoly politicians know who is stuffing their pockets and it’s not we the people.

But there is a way forward. This destruction of a people’s democracy in the aftermath of the Citizens United ruling has broken down trust in this corrupt system and a recent poll has shown that 45% of Americans identify as political independents, an all time high!

The Green Party of the United States emerged from the 2024 Presidential election as the leading independent party in the nation. That’s because we don’t take one penny of corporate SuperPAC money and stand for the issues that matter to the American people, like:

• Improved and expanded Medicare for All
• A living minimum wage of at least $25 an hour and robust unions to fight for collective bargaining rights for workers
• A real Green New Deal to reverse the deadly march towards climate catastrophe; and
• An end to war mongering around the globe that would put a stop to the horrific genocide in Palestine, honor international law and treaties, and facilitate a lasting peace

Friend, the moment is right for the Green Party to run candidates all around the nation who reject corporate SuperPAC money and seek to represent the needs and wants of the American people. But we’re up against the billions of dollars that the corporate powers use to push their greedy agenda. We only take money from supporters like you, because we can’t be bought.
