Bruce A. Dixon
Saturday, July 6th: Memorial Service for Bruce A. Dixon.
Many following social media have heard by now that Bruce Dixon, cochair of the Georgia Green Party, co-chair of the Hawkins 2020 Presidential campaign, a founder and the Managing Editor of Black Agenda Report, husband, father, grandfather, lifelong socialist and mentor to many in the movement for a just peace, died yesterday after a three year long battle with leukemia.
He was pronounced dead at 2:32 pm, within 15 minutes of the removal of life support, surrounded by his wife, Carole, three of his four kids, many of Carole's family and a couple of long time comrades from the movement.
While the logistics of the event are still coming together, we already know that a memorial service will be held in the Atlanta area on Saturday, July 6th, 2019. Those wishing to join the family to pay your respects Saturday, July 6th: Memorial Service for Bruce A. Dixon are urged to make your travel arrangements now.
Georgia Greens willing to host our out-of-town guests are urged to communicate privately with Hugh Esco to make known what sort of accommodations you can make available for how many people.
This a first person biographical sketch Bruce wrote about himself only a few months ago.
Bruce, we pray that your family may know comfort at this time and that you may be rewarded with a coveted place in the next realm for your life time of work dedicated to the cause of justice. To Allah is our return. Amen.
Bruce A. Dixon and other former Black Panthers along with the Brown Berets raise their fists and chant "All Power to the People" at the 50th Anniversary of the Illinois Chapter of the BPP at a West Side Health Fair in November.
