Change is yours if you want it
We don't usually send out links to articles from corporate entities, but this one is pretty telling. Jon Campbell reports on how nothing is getting done in the NYS Senate because those in power put party over people. It's chaos and gridlock in Albany as you and I try to deal with crisis after crisis with climate change, health care, systemic racism, and more. You can read the article here.
That is why we are so proud and excited about our candidates for statewide office as well as the Brian White for State Senate campaign in the 55th district to replace Rich Funke. Take a look at what Brian is trying to do with his campaign, then see how you can support him. This is a perfect example of why Greens run for office. The two-party system is not working and if those in power don't want to do anything, we will.
There are actually a few ways you can support Green candidates. One of which is signing the petitions necessary to get them on the ballot. The petitioning time period begins Tuesday, June 5th and goes until July 9th. We need Greens in Monroe County to sign petitions for our statewide candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, Comptroller, & Attorney General. We also need Green signatures to get Brian White on the ballot in the 55th State Senate district (click here to see the district map). And we also need signatures from Monroe County Greens to choose our representatives in the Green Party of New York's State Committee.
The State Committee of the Green Party of New York State meets in Troy, NY four times a year and does work electronically make sure the state party runs smoothly and to recruit & promote statewide candidates. Greens in Monroe County have not had representation in this body for a while, now we have 7 seats that need to be filled by getting petition signatures. But we still need a few more people to volunteer to be on the SC. It's pretty easy, but very important as we would once again have a say in who runs for office at the state level. And you get to hang with a great group of people! Please let us know by responding to this email if you would be interested or have questions.
We will be looking for Greens to get their signatures on these petitions OR you can come to our next monthly meeting. The topic of that meeting is going to be a good one.
Wouldn't you like to have a government that only does business with socially responsible businesses? Well, a group of people in Rochester are trying to make that happen. Join us for a discussion with Nate Baldo and David Sperber from Jewish Voice for Peace on getting the City of Rochester to only do business with socially responsible companies. It's happening Thursday, June 14th from 7 - 9pm at the Flying Squirrel Community Space, 285 Clarissa Street in Rochester. While only Greens can sign the petitions, the meeting is free and open for anyone interested.
And last, but by no means least, on May 31st, representatives of the Green Party were on Evan Dawson's show on WXXI-AM in Rochester. Party co-chair, Dave Sutliff-Atias, Treasurer Alex White, and State Comptroller candidate Mark Dunlea joined Evan for a great conversation. If you missed it, you can still listen to it here, then share it on your social media.
Remember: We are not the alternative, we are the imperative!
Go Greens!
