February Update from Texas

Howdy! Ramadan Mubarak, Lenten Greetings, etc.!
We hope you’ve had a decent Valentine’s day and an enlightening Black History Month. We’ve got a quote at the end of this update that combines both, but the nominating conventions start in just over a week!
Here’s what you need to know…
Sunday, March 8th, 4PM - Our monthly statewide call will be dedicated to answering any remaining questions about the convention process. By the end, everyone will be confident! Doubtless, unexpected questions will surely arise on convention night, so all the organizers will have a cochair’s phone number & we’ll be live on Zoom to help out.
Tuesday, March 10 (times vary) - The following counties will have consolidated precinct conventions (CPCs). This is the nomination process small parties use to nominate our candidates. Much like the primaries you’ve heard about, but with better candidates. If you are unable to attend, but can make it to the county convention, please ask someone to nominate you as a delegate.
Bell, Bexar, Cameron, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Harris, Hidalgo, Smith, Travis,Williamson
If your county isn’t on that list - we need YOU (yes, you personally) to get your Green neighbors active & organized. Please give this page a read & contact us at [email protected] with the good news.
Saturday, March 14 (times may vary) County Conventions
Delegates nominated at the precinct conventions will meet to verify the results from the CPCs & evaluate any proposals (resolutions, etc.) submitted at those conventions in their county. They will nominate delegates to the State Conventions & (if applicable), District convention.
Saturday, March 21, 11am-NOON Combined District Conventions (web meeting)
Same as above, but for folks in districts where a candidate is running for a district-level office.
Saturday, April 11, 11am - 1pm State Convention (web meeting)
This is the final step for Texas! All voting results are confirmed & proposals for the state level are evaluated.

Black Alliance For Peace

The BAP seeks to recapture and redevelop the historic anti-war, anti-imperialist, and pro-peace positions of the radical Black movement. Through educational activities, organizing and movement support, organizations and individuals in the Alliance will work to oppose both militarized domestic state repression, and the policies of destabilization, subversion and the permanent war agenda of the U.S. state globally.
