Santa Clara, Ca – As leaves start to fall off trees and California Assembly and Senate members reconvene in the Capitol, we, Santa Clara Greens, get ready to fight for the causes and campaign for the bills and candidates we have endorsed. From Public Banking, Rent Control, and Ranked Choice Voting bills to the Climate Strike to our County Council elections, we are busy bringing our Green values to our communities.

AND we are very excited about our own county councilmember, Jake Tonkel, running for San José City Council in District 6!

The Santa Clara County Green Party is proud to announce that we have endorsed Jake Tonkel for San Jose City Council District 6 at our last monthly meeting. Jake is one of our Green county councilmembers and a great grassroots community organizer who's worked on public banking and fossil fuels divestment. Join us for an evening of community, fun, food, and drinks as we kick-start this new chapter of Jake's campaign trail!

Jake is not accepting corporate donations, this means a true grass roots campaign that requires the community's support to make it through the 2020 primary election. No donation is too small, so please come out and give whatever you can. Every dollar, every voice and every vote counts.

Green Party County Council Elections: Call for Candidates

The Green Party of Santa Clara County will have elections for its County Council (or County Central Committee as defined by the Registrar of Voters) on March 3, 2020 during the California primaries. We have seven seats open and we welcome any Green Party member to apply! If interested, please contact us. In order to be a candidate for the Green Party of Santa Clara County Council, you must have been a registered Green for the past three months.

Note that only registered Greens can vote in the Green Party primary election.

SAVE THE DATE: Petition Signing Party on Oct. 5!

Each candidate for County Council has to collect 20 valid signatures from Santa Clara County Green Party voters in order to appear on the March 2020 primary ballot. To that end, Santa Clara Greens are organizing a Petition Signing Party on Saturday, October 5 at 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the San Jose Peace & Justice Center. We'll have food, drinks, music and fun chatting and signing petitions. You can even register Green onsite to become a signatory! Please RSVP.

Call your Assembly Member to Vote YES on SB 212!

SB 212, the bill that would allow all cities, counties,and school boards, not just charter cities, to use ranked choice voting, is expecting to be voted on this week by the California Assembly. Please call your Assembly Member's CAPITOL (not District) number to ask for a "Yes" vote on SB 212.

2. Find their CAPITOL office# at https://www.assembly.ca.gov/assemblymembers
   
   
3. Say something like: "Hi. My name is _____ and I live in Assembly Member ______'s district. I'd like him/her to vote Yes on SB 212 when it comes up for a vote. It's a local options bill that will give cities more choices to adopt a voting system that works for them. Allowing for ranked choice voting would end the spoiler effect in local elections."
