We want to be the first to wish those who celebrate, Happy 4/20!

4/20 started as a counterculture holiday in the early 1970s. It is a day for advocating for cannabis liberalization and legalization. Whether you choose to protest in private or public for the legalization of cannabis, the Green Party stands with you. 

10 states have no medical marijuana legislation, and 36 states have no recreational legislation. Like many other Greens, in states without reform, we see the impacts through incarceration, unequal enforcement, lost economic opportunity, and barriers to medical access for those who need relief.

We believe cannabis policy should be rooted in justice, freedom, and common sense. That means ending the failed war on cannabis, expunging prior nonviolent cannabis convictions, investing in communities harmed by prohibition, and allowing states and communities to build fair, equitable systems.

This 4/20, we celebrate progress already won and recommit ourselves to the work still ahead. No one should lose their freedom, job, housing, or future over a plant.
