The presidential nomination on Saturday is part of the larger Green national convention, which takes place from Thursday, August 15 to Sunday, August 18.
As members of the Green Party's national Steering Committee, Elisabeth and Cayetano embody the party's ideals, goals, and platform. Elisabeth, a former Seattle City Council candidate, and Cayetano, former co-chair of the Green Party of New Jersey and Town Council candidate in Hawthorne, New Jersey, are playing a crucial role in promoting the convention and serving as media spokespeople.
The Honorary Co-Chairs will be responsible for opening the convention, serving as "Masters of Ceremonies," and participating in media outreach.
"The Green Party and our Green New Deal are the answer the United States has been waiting for. It's time to vote Green for an evergreen future," said Margaret Elisabeth
Elisabeth ran for Seattle City Council in 2023, garnering 6% of the vote in their district though they failed to make it through the primary. They hosted a preview of the 2024 Green Convention on GreenStream, the Green Party's livestream show, on August 1, which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvthtl8nmos.
Craig Cayetano ran for Hawthorne Town Council and in 2023 received 33% of the vote.
"I have said before that the Green Party is the true people's party here in the US, always standing with labor and the peace movement," said Cayetano.
"Craig Cayetano brings a wealth of experience in environmental and animal rights activism, as well as a strong background in sales and customer relations," said Gloria Mattera, Green Party Media Committee Coordinator. "We are excited to have him and Margaret Elisabeth as our Honorary Co-Chairs."
The Green Convention will be held virtually on Zoom and simulcast on various social media sites. The Green Party encourages members of the media who are interested in covering the nomination, press conferences, and other events to register for media credentials at the link above.
