The holidays are upon us and this is the final “First Friday/$5 Friday” for 2016.

This modest monthly fundraiser—which we launched in May of 2015—has turned into one of the major ongoing fundraisers for Green Party of the United States (GPUS).

Because in the waning days of 2016, you make your mark on the success of 2017—for a very modest donation.

“First Friday/$5 Friday” is a way for all of us to chip in and—like crowdfunding—it makes a big difference in the amount of work the Green Party can accomplish for gaining Ballot Access and organizing Greens in states like North Dakota, which is a huge part of our plans for next year.

Each and every month, on the 1st Friday of the month, the “ask” is always different. We showcase one of the many reasons to give, a program or a new initiative to respond to politics on the ground.

Our hope with this fundraiser was to create a flexible, additional income stream that can be devoted to the most pressing projects.

But in fact, “First Friday” has become more than that.

Many, many donors have made their $5 donation a monthly commitment. When we started, we had under $3,000 a month in sustainer income. Now, it's topped $12,000! How's that for success?!

It all points to this reality...

Our movement is growing!

People are sick and tired and frankly, frightened, by “politics as usual.”

Only, politics ARE NOT usual anymore. The Alt-Right has been firmly ensconced in the new White House and President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet appointments are a Right-Wing Dream Team.

No wonder we've been inundated with new volunteers and people clamoring for information on what they can do to help. Well...

One way to help fight the new Alt-Right is to give $5 today.

Call it a holiday gift or just call it “spendable hope”, but either way, it's part of the fuel we need to keep Green ideas and political action going strong. 

We have to breathe again. We have to get going. And GPUS is doing just that.

Right now, the National Steering Committee is talking about focusing on getting new states affiliated and gaining Ballot Access in states like Texas.

Part of the action plan may include a mobile outreach project where organizers will travel county to county in Texas building the Green Party, strengthening existing local chapters and starting new ones!

And that’s not all. Plans are being discussed to extend a lot more support to state parties. How?

By making skills and technology available to help build local and statewide Green organizations.

All of this takes money.

So here's the plan—to kickstart these and other 2017 activities, we're asking--even if you’ve never given before to “First Friday/$5 Friday”--that you give today.

Why $5? Because many people can spare $5 and we’re all about inclusivity.

You can give once, or you can set up your donation to be $5 a month. (And of course you can always give more than $5 if you wish!)

We now have over 900 sustaining members and the number is growing everyday. We need about a thousand more $5 donors to give our 2017 work an early push forward.
