Have you heard about HR 1, the poison pill sponsored by Congressman John Sarbanes disguised as a bill to get money out of politics? As electoral reform including getting big money out of politics has become more popular among voters, the Democrats are using it as a smokescreen to push for changes that will continue to restrict voter choice and silence opposition parties like the Green Party.

As reported in Black Agenda Report, "HR 1 pretends to be a voting rights bill, but is...intended to rebrand Democrats as the party of voting rights, despite their dismal non-record of struggle to protect or expand these rights."

The proposed bill, which has not been introduced as of yet,will create a huge barrier for smaller parties like the Green Party from fielding a Presidential candidate because it "... quintuples the amount Green presidential campaigns are required to raise to qualify for federal matching funds from $5,000 in each of 20 states by the last day of 2019, to $25,000 per state in 20 states, and the deadline falls at the end of this very year." (Black Agenda Report).

With grassroots support, the Green Party presidential ticket of Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka was able to be a visible and robust opposition to the two corporate candidates in 2016 by organizing state by state to raise the 5,000 dollars needed to qualify for Federal matching funds. Many of you were a part of that and we appreciate your support. Now we need your help in getting the word out to build opposition now to this disingenuous “voting rights” bill.
