We Run for Office & We Take Action
One of the things that sets the Green Party apart from the corporate parties is that not only do we run for office, but we participate in and help organize actions to create change. And we have both coming up!
We have the word from the NYS State Board of Elections on exactly what we are supposed to write on our ballots to vote for Jill Stein for President and Butch Ware for Vice President. We'll need to write "Jill Stein" and "Rudolph Ware".
Don't worry, our Green comrades in the Bronx are working on a graphic to show us exactly how to do it. As soon as we get it, we'll be passing it along via email, social media, and hard copy.
In the meantime, it is imperative that we continue to amplify Jill's & Butch's voices. Like, share, & save their social media posts. Talk about them to friends and family. Donate to the campaign. This is all hands on deck to fight the ongoing genocide and make those in charge realize we're serious about climate change and other important issues.
So, there's not just electoral work to be done. Here are three upcoming actions that are super important - in chronological order:
On Monday, September 16th, our Congressman and County Executive are showing their true warmongering ways by hosting an annual matchmaking event designed to draw more businesses into the military industrial complex. It will be held at (of all places) the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG). Congressman Morelle is bought and paid for by AIPAC and military contractors that are directly responsible for manufacturing the means to genocide Palestinians and cause death and suffering to people across the globe. And County Executive Bello continues to insist that the symbol of genocide be flown outside the County Building on Main Street. (We really need a couple of Greens to run against these guys.) We will be meeting at the corners of University Avenue & N. Goodman St. from 4-6pm to call for an economy that meets the people's needs, not feeds the war machine's greed.
There is also an open letter that you can sign calling for the MAG to cancel the "4th Annual Defense and Government Contracting Forum and Matchmaking" and to stand up for their stated values.
The letter is at https://www.change.org/p/urge-memorial-art-gallery-to-cancel-defense-government-forum-matchmaker-event.
The next day, we'll be participating in the Health Crisis in Gaza Rally #7. Every Tuesday, we've been joining others at the corners of Mt. Hope Blvd & Elmwood Avenue from 4 - 6pm to wave signs & flags and talk to people about the horrific genocide happening in Palestine. And we're doing it again on September 17th. Every week the passers-by show more and more support. Bring a sign or use one of the ones already there.
And then we will be joining the Mothers Rebellion Rochester event for Peace and Climate Justice on Saturday, September 21st at L3 Harris, 1680 University Ave. Here's is how they describe the event:
And there are more things happening the following week, but we'll get to those in the next GPOMC email.
See you in the streets!
