Inspired by the New Deal programs that helped us out of the Great Depression of the 1930s, the Green New Deal will provide similar relief and create an economy that makes our communities sustainable, healthy and just."

The United Nations last month announced that we have 12 years left for an emergency worldwide mobilization - unprecedented in human history - to halt the use of fossil fuels and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions.

Failure to take such dramatic action increases the likelihood that human civilization as we presently know it will cease to exist. Floods, sea level rise, wildfires, heat waves and droughts will make parts of the planet uninhabitable. Climate refugees will likely be in the hundreds of millions. Support systems involving energy, food and water will break down, leading to wars over such resources. Hundreds of millions, if not billions, could die.

In response to requests from organized supporters of Tulsi Gabbard's OFF (Off Fossil Fuels) Act, Steve Greenfield, Green Party candidate for Congress in New York's 19th District, has endorsed the bill, and signed the pledge to co-sponsor the bill upon taking a seat in the House of Representatives. He is the only candidate in New York's 19th District to do so.


Hawkins Calls for a Green to be Appointed to the New York Public Service Commission

Howie Hawkins, the Green Party candidate for Governor, said today that a Green Party member should be appointed to fill the vacancy in the Public Service Commission (PSC).

At its state convention in a Rennselaer church on Saturday, the Green Party of New York designated Howie Hawkins for Governor and Jia Lee for Lieutenant Governor.


On April 23, I will join with hundreds of fellow climate activists at the State Capitol in Albany to tell Governor Cuomo that he needs to walk the talk in taking action to stop climate change.
