Proposal from Connecticut and Rhode Island to change the name of the ASGP
WHEREAS, global ecological, political, and social environments are rapidly approaching a catastrophe which threatens the world's peace, democracy, prosperity, and very survival, and
WHEREAS, the desperate state of the nation, and the world, demand a strong and vibrant Green party in the United States, to work alongside existing Green parties in more than 90 other countries, and
WHEREAS, the Green parties of various states have reached a new stage of development, flourishing in nearly every one of the fifty states and the District of Columbia -- but have not taken the final legal steps toward establishing the Green Party of the United States, and
WHEREAS, twenty-nine state Green parties have already affiliated with, and eight others are in the process of joining, the Association of State Green Parties (ASGP), and
WHEREAS, creating the Green Party of the United States requires that a Green Party National Committee be officially registered with the Federal Election Commission (FEC),
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Green Party of Rhode Island calls on all fellow Green parties to support, endorse, and authorize ASGP's filing with the FEC, as soon as practical, subsequent to the July meeting of the ASGP Coordinating Committee in Santa Barbara, California, to move forward with the creation of the Green Party of the United States as the legally constituted national Green Party in the United States.
Whereas the Association of State Green Parties (ASGP) has grown and developed to the point where it is appropriate to form a Green Party National Committee, and Whereas it is appropriate that the Green Party National Committee be named the Green Party of the United States, and
Whereas the committees, rules, and structure of the ASGP are in alignment with what the Green Party National Committee should have as its structure, rules and committees.
Therefore, be it resolved, that the ASGP shall transform its name into the GPUS, while carrying forward its rules, structure, and officers, and shall file with the FEC using the rules and structure brought forward from the ASGP.
