Call Gov. Newsom at (916) 445-2841 and Tell Him to Sign These Bills into Law!
There are many bills sitting on Gov. Newsom's desk waiting to be signed into law before October 13. Here are a few that you can help with:
- Please add your voice to the call for Gov. Newsom to sign the public banking bill AB 857 into law. Click here to call, email, and sign the petition.
- Please call for Gov Newsom to sign AB 5 into law. This landmark bill is a significant step forward for gig workers in the state and workers' rights in general.
- Please write Gov. Newsom a letter asking him to sign SB 212 into law. This bill would allow all cities, counties and school boards, not just charter cities, to use ranked choice voting. Click here to enter a comment and choose 'SB00212\Elections: local voting methods' as the subject.
- Please ask Gov. Newsom to sign AB 1482 into law. This rent cap bill would regulate how much rent can increase per year (5% + inflation rate). Click here to enter a comment and choose 'AB01482\Tenant Protection Act of 2019: tenancy: rent caps' as the subject.

Defend the Venezuelan Embassy Protectors!
Monday, October 14, 2019 at 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
San Jose Peace and Justice Center, 48 S 7th St., San Jose, 95112
Meet Greens Kevin Zeese, Margaret Flowers as well as David Paul who each face one-year prison sentences and $100,000 fines based on the spurious charge of “interfering with government operations.” These courgeous Embassy Protectors defended the Washington, D.C. Venezuelan Embassy for 34 days at the request of the Venezuelan government and its President Nicolas Maduro while the Trump administration had appointed its own "president" of Venezuela in the course of its blatantly orchestrated, but failed coup attempt.
Community Meal at 6:00 p.m. and event at 7:00 p.m. Come socialize with Kevin, Margaret, and David before the talk. Bring a dish to pass if you can.
Howie's Visit to San Jose was Great!
Howie Hawkins, 2020 Green Party Presidential candidate, came to our monthly meeting on September 26 and introduced himself and his platform. He talked about his activist background since the 60's, his role as co-founder of the Green Party of the U.S., and the "life and death issues" of his campaign: the climate crisis, an economic bill of rights, and the nuclear threat. Howie responded to many questions from the audience.
We look forward to seeing him again in California, in particular in Oakland on October 15 (see Facebook event here)!
