In 2026, the Green Party is running more than 200 candidates in 27 states for local, state, and federal offices on a wide range of issues. We already have 35 Victories in 2026. Candidates on the Sept. 14th webinar include Jeanine Couto for County Commissioner in North Carolina; Dianne Blais for Congress in Virginia; Brendan Trachsel for Arizona State Representative, District 6; and Kymone Freeman for Congress in DC.

On ecological issues, the Trump administration and the Republicans have launched an all out war on the environment, denying climate change, promoting fossil fuels and a host of false climate solutions starting with nuclear power, and weakening the nation’s law on clean air and water.

The Democrats have become weaker on environmental issues in recent years, though they have long been too supportive of corporate polluters. Many mainstream Democrats, starting with the governors, have jettisoned what were relatively weak climate laws in the name of affordability, ignoring that renewables are cheaper than fossil fuels and that global warming and extreme weather continue to accelerate.

They have often embraced the All of the Above Energy strategy promoted by Obama and Biden, bragging that the Democrats help make the US the world’s leading producer of oil and gas. Many have begun to promote the dangerous and expensive resurgence of nuclear power.

Starting in 2010, the Green Party has advocated for an ecosocialist Green New Deal, combining a ten-year timeline to zero emissions along with an Economic Bill of Rights including living wage jobs and a guaranteed income, single payer Improved and Expanded Medicare for All, affordable housing and a free college tuition. Unlike the much weaker Green New Deal pushed by Democrats like AOC, the Greens expressly opposed nuclear power and new fossil fuel infrastructure, including fracking, while calling to pay for it with a robust carbon tax and dividend, along with cutting the military budget at least 50%.

EcoAction has developed a two-page handout for use by candidates, highlighting the Green New Deal, banning data centers, opposing nuclear power, promoting biodiversity, environmental justice and small scale agroecology, halting single-use plastic, and replacing capitalism with ecosocialism.

Diane had numerous jobs in Washington, DC and Virginia before becoming an active volunteer while raising 4 children and hosting over 100 foster children. She has been active in numerous organizations, including the League of Women Voters, although now she is mostly involved in peace organizations – she is horrified by U.S. policy with other countries – our bombs, sanctions, and interference in other countries' governments. Ralph Nader and Jill Stein are models she tries to emulate.

Brendan Trachsel for Arizona State Representative, District 6.
Brendan is a Flagstaff-based organizer and two-time Northern Arizona University alum. As a student, he fought for and won higher student wages, university fee transparency, and expanded services. After nine months of coalition organizing, he helped push the City of Flagstaff to cancel its Flock Safety surveillance contract in December 2025. Brendan believes it is essential that our solutions work for all Arizonans, not just those at the top. Freeman is a Democratic Socialist representing the DC Statehood Party in the nation's capital, where he intends to put an end to taxation w/o representation, expand the HUD guidelines that stipulate no one should pay more than 30% of their income plus utilities in housing into federal law, and address the root causes of crime, violence, and environmental racism. All Democrats are not created equal! Jeanine Couto is running as a candidate of the North Carolina Green Party in Greensboro, NC for a seat on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners District 3.
She works as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Portuguese at Winston-Salem State University. She is a native of Brazil.
