Greenline June 2018
Green Party News
Green Party Members from Texas and Pennsylvania attended the 2018 ACLU Membership Conference held from June 10th-12th in Washington, D.C. Report submitted by: Joy Davis, National Green Party Outreach Committee Co-chair.
This was an exciting opportunity to network with other lawyers, activists, advocates, and those who share a passion for standing up and fighting back against injustices currently plaguing our society. Our youth shared their skills, voiced their concerns, listened to organizing success stories, and heard from exciting speakers! They were able to share their stories and connections with the lawyers, activists, and clients that actually have pending cases before the government.
Greens attended multiple workshops essential to the political climate of what is currently occurring such as: (1) Turn Up the Volume by Building a Local Activism Machine (2) The War on Immigrant Women and Families at the Border (3) Ending the Loop: Rights Violations Abroad and Repression of Civil Liberties at Home (4) Smart Justice: Dismantling Mass Incarceration and numerous other workshops. There were so many wonderful workshops happening it was difficult to choose.
Candidates
The Coordinated Campaign Committee (CCC) is currently working on a variety of projects to help Green candidates to victory this November and beyond!
First, we would like to recognize outgoing Co-chairpersons Hillary Kane and Jason Nabewaniec, both of whom have served the CCC and Green Party admirably over the course of many years as Co-chairs of the committee. Three cheers for two of the hardest working greens out there, you have left some mighty big shoes to fill! Fortunately, both Hillary and Jason remain on the committee as members, we appreciate their continued participation and invaluable experience and are excited to work with them on committee matters moving forward.
We invite you to join our GREEN WAVE campaign! We are encouraging Greens from all over the country to participate in a collective volunteer effort the first Saturday of each month. Some states are planning even more actions than that. Please contact your state party or local to get more information about specific Green Wave or visit the Green Wave page at the GPUS website.
The CCC is serious about supporting Green candidates across the country. In years past, the committee has had a budget for candidate support. However, this year we are pursuing innovation in our fundraising and presenting the very first Green Social Media Telethon on August 18th and 19th. Green Party leaders, candidates and maybe even some surprise guests will make appeals to donate to the CCC Candidate fund and ask viewers to support their state and local Green Parties as well. Watch for dedicated, original Green programming throughout the day with posts on Facebook, Twitter and beyond. We hope that all Greens will pitch in on this day and show support for an excellent midterm crop of GP candidates! If you would like to volunteer to assist with the promotion or execution of this exciting event, please send us an email at [email protected]
Summer is upon us and campaign season is finally here! At this time, we are activating the CCC volunteers to assist in doing the business of the committee and to strengthen our Green campaigns.
The CCC needs volunteer help in many areas, including, but not limited to, the following roles:
Green Wave Campaign Field Organizers – coordinating candidates, organizing precinct captains and campaign volunteers, working with campaigns and party officials to promote Green Wave events in your area.
Social Media Ambassadors—Sharing posts related to candidates and their campaigns, increasing awareness of CCC Candidate Education events, writing and sharing posts about Green Party candidates and candidate education on your Facebook timeline, in groups and to Facebook pages.
Data Management—Collection of voter files, targeting data,
Research—Local and state election dates, ballot qualification requirements, prior election data, ensuring data on sites such as Ballotpedia is available and accurate, creating calendars of meetings and events.
Candidate Recruitment Coordinators—Helping connect potential candidates with CCC resources. Orienting potential candidates and connecting them with local or state party officials.
Election Observers/Challengers/Poll Watchers - Responsibilities vary by state. Generally, you must be available on Election Day to participate.
Let's #GrowTogether! Your participation is crucial to the success of our mission to elect candidates to public office who will advocate for and uphold Green Party values.
The CCC looks forward to hearing from you about how you would like to help grow our campaigns into full bloom! Thanks for everything you do to help support the Green Party and our candidates and to promote Green values.
Kind Regards,
Erin Fox (MI) and Holly Hart (IA), Co-chairpersons, Coordinated Campaign Committee
Press Releases
6/20/2018: Green Party Calls for Action in Response to UN Report on Poverty in the U.S. The UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights recently released a damning report on poverty and income inequality conditions in the United States. The report will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday, June 21. The Trump administration withdrew the U.S. from the council yesterday, claiming it was "bias[ed]" against Israel, among other reasons. The report pointed out that over 40 million Americans live in conditions of poverty. It also found that the Republican-passed tax cuts bill has already worsened income inequality while it benefits the wealthiest Americans. CONTINUE READING
6/21/2018: Green Party Statement on Child Separations in Immigration Cases. The Green Party of the United States affirms that migration is a human right, and we are outraged by the current situation at the U.S. border regarding the inhumane treatment of children and families seeking refuge from the United States’ imperialist policies visited upon Latin American nations. Greens are not fooled by the games that the Trump administration now seems to be playing with human lives. His executive order today, while a victory for public activism and direct action in general, seems more an attempt to mollify the public and create a legal situation in which current law regarding the maximum time limit for detention could be challenged.
