Bruce Hinkforth 1950 – 2025

Bruce John Hinkforth, age 75, passed away peacefully after a month long battle with the rare brain disease PRES. Bruce was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater with degrees in Geology and Biology. These served as his own design of a degree in Environmental Science, which did not exist as a degree in 1980. He is survived by his wife Karen and son Brett, his stepmother Chris, as well as sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and his beloved corgi dogs. Continue reading

Jesse Johnson 1959 – 2025

Jesse Johnson, West Virginia environmental activist and politician, died Thursday, April 10, 2025. He is remembered as a fiery speaker opposed to mountaintop removal and Marcellus Shale gas extraction. As a member of the West Virginia Mountain Party, Johnson ran for governor in 2004, 2008, and 2012 ensuring ballot access for the subsequent four years. He also ran for US Senate in 2010 and House of Delegates in 2014. Continue reading
