Greens Say No To War With Iran: Latest Updates

Baraka-R2P.jpg

One of the most ingenious propaganda weapons ever developed is that the powerful nations of the West—led by the United States—have a moral responsibility to use military force to protect the rights of people being repressed by their governments. This "responsibility to protect" (R2P) always had a dubious legal standing, but its moral justification also required a psychological and historical disengagement from the bloody reality of the 500-hundred-year history of U.S. and European colonialism, slavery, genocide and torture that created the "West."

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party leaders responded to President Trump's 2018 State of the Union address on Tuesday, Jan. 30, with sharp criticism of his statements on energy in light of the climate crisis, plans for more nuclear weapons, health care, immigration, and other administration policies.

Green rebuttals to Mr. Trump's speech and to reactions from both Democratic and Republican parties can be read below. The rebuttals advocate alternative ideas like the Green New Deal, Single-Payer health care, and global nuclear disarmament.

The threat of global nuclear war and the growing climate crisis are, to put it bluntly, the two biggest threats to the future of life on Earth.

That's why I agreed to be one of the keynote speakers at No War 2017: War and the Environment – and why I'm asking you to tune in to the opening panel this Friday September 22nd at 7 PM Eastern time.

  • NJ Residents will Gather at Martin Luther King Statue near Old Records Hall

Members of the media and general public are invited to a protest against the hostile threats of the Trump Administration made at the United Nations, as well as the financing of those threats through Tuesday's $700 billion war budget vote – with both NJ Senator Booker voting in favor and Senator Menendez not voting. The protest will demand an end to preparations for war and threats of war against North Korea, Venezuela, Iran, and Yemen. It will also demand $700 billion for the recovery of Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas, and to meet human needs throughout the US.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party leaders said today that threats of preemptive strikes and military intervention are placing the U.S. in the role of aggressor nation and undermining any chance of maintaining peace and international security.

North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela have been the targets of recent belligerent threats from the Trump administration. Greens also strongly opposed sanctions against Russia, North Korea, and Iran and bipartisan efforts to ignite a new Cold War, calling such policies an invitation for World War III.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Green Party of Korea and Green Party of the United States have published a joint statement against the decision to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) in South Korea. The statement follows below.

Jill Stein, 2016 Green nominee for President of the U.S., traveled to South Korea in July along with a peace delegation to support Koreans protesting deployment of THAAD.

The Green Party will be well represented at this year's LeftForum in New York City. Two dozen Greens from around the country will participate in over 20 panels.

Left Forum provides a context for the critical conversations that are essential for a stronger Left and a more just society.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Green Party of the United States strongly condemned President Donald Trump's unilateral cruise missile strike on a Syrian government airfield and called for a halt to further overt and covert military action by the U.S.

Greens called for an internationally cooperative and impartial investigation of the nerve gas attack in Idlib province that killed scores of civilians, which supposedly motivated Mr. Trump to order the strikes. The U.S. alleges that the President Bashar al-Assad government is responsible for the gas attack, a claim disputed by some journalists covering the war.

Adrián Boutureira, the National Political Organizer of the Green Party of the United States, will be one of the keynote speakers at Saturday's 12th Annual Peace and Justice Gathering.

Adrian came to the US in 1973 following the consolidation of the brutal right wing military regime in his native country of Uruguay.  He has since spent his adult life in the US engaged in the struggle for social justice: racial, economic and environmental justice, Latin American struggles, Palestinian Liberation, and human rights. Adrián supported Jill Stein for President, where he served as Field Director and Special Advisor on Palestinian and Latin American Affairs. He is presently serving as National Political Organizer for the Green Party, and lives in Austin.
