Climate Change

Calvin and David sit down with Mayor of Galesburg, Peter Schwartzman to catch up since our first interview back in April '21 and to talk specifically about Climate Change on the local and national levels.

On Friday, I was proud to stand with the New Haven Climate Movement which has been doing a tremendous job as a youth-led #climate movement.

Their event was well attended and organized in solidarity with the international climate movement Fridays for Future International as part of a global #climatestrike that day.

(SYRACUSE, NY – October 3, 2021) Howie Hawkins, the Green Party's 2020 presidential candidate, blasted Democrats today for accepting token climate measures in the shrinking Build Back Better reconciliation bill.

"Biden's original climate proposals in his $2.3 trillion American Jobs Plan last March were inadequate to begin with. Only about $100 billion a year in that proposal were climate-and energy-related spending. Its policies included counter-productive measures like further natural gas development," said Hawkins who made a detailed critique of the plan's climate provisions at the time.

PressTV news has Green Party Communications Manager Michael O'Neil speak on the United States' obligations to avert a global climate catastrophe.

  • Stands in Solidarity with Maryland Green Party

FALLS CHURCH, VA – The Green Party of Virginia (GPVA) stands in solidarity with our comrades and allies in Maryland who are resisting the Del-Mar fracked gas pipeline being constructed along the Delmarva Peninsula. If this pipeline is completed it would further entrench our reliance on fossil fuels, and increases risks of environmental damage to Virginians on the Eastern Shore.

The GPVA is committed to stopping all new fossil fuel infrastructure in Virginia, and instead push for a 100% renewable energy system. The GPVA has stood alongside countless activists, landowners, and workers to successfully oppose the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. We continue to stand in solidarity with those fighting the Mountain Valley Pipeline. We will oppose any attempt to extend additional fossil fuel infrastructure into the state and will work with those already opposing this project on the Delmarva Peninsula, including the Maryland Green Party.

SAN FRANCISCO – Ever since the historic labor movement culminating in Chicago's 1886 Haymarket Riot and the commemorating of May Day as International Workers Day, capitalists have pushed back against workers' rights and safety, and their ability to organize.

Other moments in history brought the labor movements' struggle to intersect other critical movements such as when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. went to Memphis to support the African American sanitation workers' efforts to unionize and their strike in protest of low wages, unsafe work conditions, and their abusive white bosses. The picket signs they carried stated the simple message: “I Am A Man.”

March 9, 2021 – The EcoAction Committee assists Green Party organizing at local, state and national levels around environmental issues, as well as supporting Green candidates. We plan in 2021 to expand our educational and organizing efforts, such as organizing regular web forums. Our next one will be on Saturday, March 27 at 6 PM EST to promote our call for Earth Day to May Day actions. For more info re our work, contact [email protected].

WASHINGTON — The Green Party of the United States EcoAction Committee has joined hundreds of other climate groups in urging President-elect Biden to take bold executive action on day one of his administration to treat climate change as a national emergency.

Howie Hawkins, the 2020 Green Party presidential candidate, condemned the appointment of Cedric Richmond to lead the White House Office of Public Engagement with business and the climate movement.

"With the appointment of Richmond, Biden just told the climate movement there will be no honeymoon with the new administration," Hawkins said.
