Green Party Candidates: “It’s Worth the Effort”

GREEN STAR asked two state-wide Green Party candidates for their thoughts on the 2024 election.

Leila Hazou was the Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate. She owns a small business in Pike County. Hazou’s primary issue was a call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. She campaigned for equal rights for all working people, especially women and LGBTQ, and an end to racism.

Greens Eliza Lumen and Lois Gagnon join the Holyoke March to End Nuclear Bombs

No to Nuclear War; Yes to Peace

By Patty O’Neill & Lois Gagnon

On Saturday, December 14, our GRP superstar Gloria Caballero Roca led a march through the streets of Holyoke to raise awareness of the increasing danger of nuclear war. Approximately 45 people braved the cold to sound the alarm about the need to abolish these horrible weapons before they end us.

Campaign Updates

By Chris Robinson

Pennsylvania elections are organized around an annual calendar: odd years are devoted to local elections, while even years are devoted to the election of candidates for state and national offices. During 2025 PA voters will elect local officials, while they will elect state and national officials in 2026.

Offices to be elected during 2025 will include city, borough and township offices such as mayor, supervisor, auditor, sheriff and tax collector. Also county offices such as commissioner and auditor.

There are just a few days remaining to get the word out about our great candidates!  Please spend some time outside your local polling stations or anywhere you can find people to talk to & let them know that peace & sustainability are on the ballot!

The campaign support Whatsapp group has been incredibly active & has played a huge role in getting stuff done during the past couple months.  If you have the Whatsapp app, or wouldn't mind installing it, please join here & ask if a chat has been created for Greens in your area yet.

Challenging Discrimination This Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year when Hispanic Heritage Month rolls around (September 15 to October 15), we have the opportunity to spotlight and celebrate the many cultures that make up the Hispanic, or Latino, or Latinx community (all terms for us that we are not universally in agreement with using. ¿Que sera, sera?). Certainly, we have a lot to celebrate, our varied and diverse communities all contain a richness of heritage, community, and vibrant culture that is reflected in the arts that we create, our traditional crafts, the music that we make, our passionate and joyful dance, and the delicious and varied traditional foods that we produce.

One of the things that sets the Green Party apart from the corporate parties is that not only do we run for office, but we participate in and help organize actions to create change.  And we have both coming up!

We have the word from the NYS State Board of Elections on exactly what we are supposed to write on our ballots to vote for Jill Stein for President and Butch Ware for Vice President.  We'll need to write "Jill Stein" and "Rudolph Ware".

Green Party Candidates will appear on PA 2024 Ballot

On August 9, the Green Party's state-wide candidates were accepted on the 2024 General Election ballot by the Pennsylvania Department of State. Candidates Jill Stein for President of the U.S.A., Leila Hazou for U.S. Senate and Richard L. Weiss Esq. for PA Attorney General had not been challenged by the deadline.

Jill Stein for President – A Moral Imperative

By Bill Carini, Tompkins Weekly, May 15, 2024

The timeworn tactic of voting for the lesser of two evils has led us to unutterable evil, as exemplified by the arming of, and diplomatic cover for, Israel’s atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank. This war crime is only the latest in a very long series of moral outrages committed by successive Democrat and Republican regimes. The military-industrial complex requires enemies to thrive, and our bought-and-paid-for presidents are happy to oblige. Even if that means risking all in a confrontation with Russia or China.

Celebrating Juneteenth with a Reality Check!

The end to racial injustice and inequity in our marginalized communities will not be achieved by a designated day, month or performative gestures. It will take a systemic change to end race- and class-based exploitation and oppression. A systemic change powered not only by a second civil rights mass movement but an equally essential electoral mass movement that will shift the power from the billionaire ruling elite to the will of the people.
