Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

The Green Party supports the right to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

From our platform

In keeping with the Green Key Values of diversity, social justice and feminism, we support full legal and political equality for all persons regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity, characteristics, and expression.

  1. The Green Party affirms the rights of all individuals to freely choose intimate partners, regardless of their sex, gender, or gender identity.

  2. The Green Party recognizes the full civil rights of sexual and gender minorities. The existing civil rights act prohibits discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, and disability. We will work to add sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression to the existing civil rights act.

  3. The Green Party will be inclusive of language in local, state and federal anti- discrimination law that ensures the rights of intersex individuals and prohibits discrimination based on gender identity, characteristics, and expression as well as on sex, gender, or sexual orientation. We are opposed to non-consenting intersex genital surgery.

  4. The Green Party affirms the right of all persons to self-determination with regard to gender identity and sex. We affirm the right of choosing non- binary and gender fluid identification. We therefore support the right of individuals to be free from coercion and involuntary assignment of gender or sex.

  5. We will pursue legislation where offenders must pay compensation to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA) people who have suffered violence and injustice.

  6. The Green Party will end all Federal military aid to national governments whose laws result in the death, other harm, or imprisonment of its citizens and residents who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA).

  7. The Green Party will enact a policy that the U. S. Government recognize all same sex marriages or legal equivalents such as civil unions, in processing visitor and immigration visas.

  8. The Green Party would end security surveillance and covert infiltration of organizations that promote rights for sexual and gender minorities.

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), the sadly still-needed worldwide event created to raise awareness about discrimination, violence and murder directed against all gender-diverse people and all people who step in any way outside gender stereotypes.

On the 54th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, we reflect on the progress towards equality we've made and the liberation we still must fight for. Only the Green Party can provide the holistic solutions we all so desperately need and stand strong in the face of bigotry and persecution.

Unlike the two Wall Street parties, the Green Party has always taken the position that we cannot compromise on issues of life or death for LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and other gender, and romantic minority) communities.

As Pride Month winds down, the Illinois Green Party remembers the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion. That event inspired grassroots organizations that grew into a nationwide Queer Liberation Movement known as Pride. Unlike the two Wall Street parties, the Green Party has always taken the position that we cannot compromise on issues of life or death for LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and other gender and romantic minority) communities. We believe that addressing the deep issues facing LGBTQIA+ communities today requires deep solutions.

Washington, DC – The Green Party of the United States has kicked off Pride Month with a call for action to continue the fight for full equality for LGBTQIA+ people.

“Pride Month is a time to celebrate the progress that has been made for LGBTQIA+ rights, but it is also a time to reflect on the work that still needs to be done,” said Joseph Naham, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States. “We must continue to fight for full equality for LGBTQIA+ people, including the right to marry, the right to adopt, and the right to serve openly in the military.”

In keeping with our values of Social Justice, Feminism and Respect for Diversity, the Illinois Green Party (ILGP) is dedicated to the struggle to cure these social maladies. We are defenders of civil liberties and human rights, and proponents of social equality. We stand with all Americans who hold the view that diversity should be celebrated, not made a basis for oppression, mistrust or hatred. And we are dedicated to transforming these values into political action.

Pride Month is here!  It began June first.  The Green Rainbow Party (GRP)is proud to be an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and a strong advocate for gay rights here in Massachusetts. In honor of this commitment, the GRP will be tabling at several Pride events across the state to show our support for the community, especially at a time when anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment is spreading and becoming mainstream by Republican Lawmakers giving the green light for other bigoted groups around the country to be open with their hate.

The Green Party National Women's Caucus (NWC) presented a webinar on Sunday, November 20th, 2022,  supporting Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR).  Speakers addressed gender diversity, TDOR and the issues it addresses, and why all of this is important for the Green Party.

  • Calls for Local School Districts to Pass Trans Model Policy

HAMPTON ROADS, VA – The Hampton Roads Green Party (HRGP) condemns the refusal of the Chesapeake School Board to implement a policy that would protect trans students in Chesapeake Schools. Students need to know that they are in a safe learning environment where they can focus on their schoolwork without the worries of being humiliated or discriminated against.

  • National Black Caucus Live-stream

A conversation with the National Black Caucus (NBC) and invited guests including trans activists, trans men and trans women and allies to have an open and honest dialogue of issues facing Black Trans people in relation to issues facing the wider Black community. There have been many issues facing the trans community and facing Black people; we have noticed that discussions about trans inclusion and issues often fail to include the voices of Black trans women and men and often fail to include Black perspectives in the wider communities, especially in community spaces.

  • The Maine Green Independent Party opposes discrimination in all forms, including discrimination against transgender people. With legislation being proposed in various states across the nation, including Maine, to ban transgender students from participating in sports, we felt it was important to take a stand.

  • The state committee of the Maine Green Independent Party voted with consensus, to oppose LD 926--Maine's bill that would codify institutional discrimination against transgender women.

PORTLAND, ME – The Maine Green Independent Party opposes LD 926, a bill that would exclude transgender women from participating in interscholastic sport in all Maine public schools and universities, including intramural sports.
