Florida Greens to hold state convention in Tampa
The Green Party of Florida will be holding it's state convention in Tampa from May 26 through May 28. A meet and greet will take place at The Peace House, 8052 N 56th St., Tampa, FL on Friday from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.
On Saturday we meet at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library, 1505 Nebraska Avenue from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM with speakers and workshops. All are welcome to the events of Friday and Saturday.

Maine Green Independent 2017 Convention is scheduled for May 21
SAVE THE DATE! The 2017 Maine Green Independent Party Annual Convention will be held on Sunday, May 21st at Viles Arboretum, 153 Hospital Street in Augusta.
Registration will begin at 9:00 AM and we will say farewell at 5:00 PM. A $20 registration fee is recommended, but no one will be turned away. We'll be sharing a potluck lunch, so please bring your favorite salads, appetizers or desserts!

Jordan Edwards, Another Victim of Police Violence
Police violence against black men has struck again in North Texas. This time, Jordan Edwards, a 15 year-old freshman in high school from Balch Springs, a near suburb of Dallas’ southeast side, was shot to death by Roy Oliver, a six-year veteran of the Balch Springs Police Department.
Late Saturday night, April 29, neighbors reported to police that a house party had gotten too loud, and they asked the police to come and check it out. A short time later, Jordan Edwards was shot dead with a rifle.

Our theme this year, Building the Party and Expanding the Green-Rainbow Tent, accentuates the need for us to continue building our party in the face of today's reality of a broken political system in America. Rosa Clemente spoke in 2008 of the Green Party as no longer the alternative, but the imperative, for us to live with social justice, freedom, and democracy. Her words were true in 2008 and still ring true today.
We are Extremely Happy announce that our Keynote speaker will be Jacqueline Patterson, the Director of the NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice Program.

On March 30, Green Party member Reverend Annie Chambers won an election to the Resident Advisory Board (RAB) of the Baltimore Department of Housing The RAB was created in 1968 and designed so residents of public housing could participate in decision making for the management of housing projects. It became a model that is now used in hundreds of cities where thousands of residents of public housing participate.

The forum will cover topics such as race and racism in the workplace, "right to work" legislation and its important effects on labor organizing. How can we overcome inter-union turf wars and foster inter-union solidarity? How can students and alumni support union organizing on campus? What can we learn from past failures and successes?

Confronting Islamophobia
The Green Party's Coordinated Campaign Committee has released a briefing paper titled "Islamophobia: Another Social Construction of Racism". The paper is intended to be a guide for use by Green candidates and activists.
Join the authors of this paper to learn more about Islamophobia and how Green Party candidates and activists can combat it through policy, advocacy, and community-building. The briefing paper recently published by the Coordinated Campaign Committee on Islamophobia is the result of a collaboration between Hugh Esco and George Friday, and synthesizes months of research on the subject.
