Dee Berry, full of energy, surprised her family and friends by dying at age 96 on April 27. Come celebrate her life on Thursday, July 14, at Simpson House, 4509 Walnut, KC MO, with visitation at 4:30 pm, a service at 6 pm, and a reception.

Dee was born in Audubon, Iowa, and—as she wrote in her own obituary—always cherished her small-town background. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Iowa, Dee came to Kansas City, where she married, had five children, and obtained her master’s degree at UMKC. She wrote that she was “caught up in the turbulent ’60s, becoming involved in the peace and justice community, a commitment she kept the rest of her life.” PeaceWorks Kansas City bestowed its Charles E. Bebb Peace Merit Award on Dee in 2015 for outstanding service to the cause of peace.

Jennifer Hyman was a beautiful, intelligent, sensitive soul. She was an activist with the Green Party and Picture The Homeless. She fought and protested for women's and LGBT rights, the environment, the Green New Deal, anti-war, and justice for African-Americans. When she recently graduated with a law degree, she looked forward to using her education to help people with housing problems. Her family and friends were very proud of her.

On January 13, we lost a good friend in Northwest Indiana and our country lost a valued leader for peace and justice today. Susan Brown made history in 2019 when she became the first-ever Green Party candidate for Valparaiso City Council. In 2016, she was a co-founder and the first chairperson of the Northwest Indiana chapter of the Green Party, the first local chapter in the state to be fully affiliated with the reconstituted Indiana Green Party. Sue went on to serve as chairperson of the Indiana Green Party.

Adrian James "AJ" Worthey, age 74 of San Antonio, passed away on November 27th, 2021. AJ was born on May 15, 1947 in San Antonio to Edker Lee and Loraine Estell (Johnson) Worthey, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, and later was awarded a Bachelor's Degree from Texas State University, formerly known as Southwest Texas State University.

Environmental Justice activist and Vice Chair of the Mountain Party Frank Young passed away yesterday on December 2, 2021. "Frank was a friend and mentor. His commitment to the environment and progressive politics will not be forgotten. He will be sorely missed," said Denise Binion, Mountain Party Chair.

Frank Young was born at Tuppers Creek in Kanawha County and was a graduate of West Virginia State University in the 1960s. For 23 years, he owned the Red Barn Tire and Wrecker Service near Ripley, West Virginia where he resided for the remainder of his life.

My beloved husband, Daniel Moses, a member of the Elders Caucus, died peacefully in his sleep in our home in Ojai, CA, on 12 September. The cause was three lung conditions caused by end-stage ankylosing spondylitis. He was 85.

Danny was editor-in-chief of Sierra Club Books for several decades. He was active in the GP of California since I convened its first meeting, in December 1984, where we met. In 1987 when the spiritual dimension of Green Politics was surprisingly under attack by a group at the first national gathering of the US Greens, in Amherst in 1987, he gave a speech that received a roaring ovation. He was widely recognized as a Great Soul.

It is with a sad heart that the Green Party of Florida shares the loss of a tireless advocate for working people. Jeff Roby passed yesterday.

Jeff was a brilliant writer who devoted himself to Green Party efforts. Our collective loss is great. Losing Jeff to COVID from contracting the virus while a longterm hospital inpatient being treated for an unrelated condition reminds us of how broken our systems are, dysfunctioning systems that have, in effect, broken the heart of our dear Rose Roby, 25 year spouse to Jeff, also a dedicated worker for the Green Party of Florida and the Green Party of the United States.

We got the news on a Sunday evening: Mort was gone. 

Dr. Mort Malkin — author, poet, physician, activist, and self-described “gadfly”—had been a fixture here in the Upper Delaware area for years. He had written not only for the River Reporter but also for the Sullivan County Democrat and other area publications. He’d written books on walking as exercise and was noted for his ability to speed-walk for long distances using a special ergonomic technique he had developed. He’d also written, compiled and/or edited anthologies of poetry. He had been an active and engaged member of his beloved community right up to the very end of his life.

In 2002, Stanley Aronowitz led efforts to maintain the official ballot status of the Green Party in New York and ran for governor on that ticket the same year. He ran a grass roots campaign based on a radical democratic program that combined opposition to corporate power and plutocratic government with commitment to sustainability, racial equality, feminism, gay liberation and individual freedom.
