Judge approves Jill Stein's plea deal for pipeline protest
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota judge on Wednesday accepted a plea agreement that spares former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein any jail time for protesting the Dakota Access oil pipeline nearly a year ago.
Judge Gail Hagerty accepted a plea deal in which Stein pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief and prosecutors dropped a misdemeanor criminal trespass charge.

Ogden native plans Green Party bid for U.S. Rep. Bishop's House seat
SOUTH JORDAN — Saying more attention needs to be paid to working-class people, an Ogden native plans to make a Green Party bid for the U.S. House seat now held by Rep. Rob Bishop.
Bishop, says Adam Davis, a tech consultant for software companies who's now living in South Jordan, is more attuned to business owners and the wealthy. Davis, by contrast, said one of his focuses would be assuring "better protections" for working people.

BAY CITY, MI -- The Green Party of Michigan is forming groups in Bay City and Saginaw.
The organization is scheduled to host two meetings Sunday, June 11, according to party officials. The first meeting takes place at 3:30 p.m. at Brewtopia in Bay City. A second meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at Red Eye Coffeehouse, 205 N. Hamilton St., in Saginaw.

Green Party's Howie Hawkins will make his third run for Syracuse mayor
Syracuse's stalwart Green Party candidate will run for mayor this fall.
Howie Hawkins, who has run for office 20 times since moving to Syracuse in 1991, plans to announce his candidacy for the city's top job in early May.
Hawkins, 64, has run for governor, U.S. senate, city auditor, Common Council and mayor. In his most recent race against City Auditor Marty Masterpole in 2015, Hawkins took 35 percent of the vote in a citywide race. In a mayoral general election that could have at least four candidates, those kind of numbers would make him competitive.

Activists Rally: Demand Albany Pass NY Single-Payer Bill
With the country once again debating the future of health care, activists rallied Tuesday in Albany, NY in support of a bill that would create a universal, publicly-financed health-insurance plan for all New Yorkers.
Rallygoer and Green Party candidate for Albany Mayor Dan Plaat believes having a state single-payer plan in place would have a positive impact on local economics. "It reminds me a lot of the anti-fracking movement. Each year the rally gets a little bit bigger. More partners are made and more people catch on to the necessity and the importance of this issue in getting this law passed, this piece of policy done."
The New York Health Act has passed twice in the Assembly, which expects to pass it again for the third year in a row. Assembly Health Committee Chair and bill sponsor Democrat Dick Gottfried says support for universal health care is growing with the public and in the state Senate, where it is co-sponsored by nearly half of all senators.
