People's Convergence Conference

The conference was held at the American University Law School In NW Washington DC. It was an excellent facility with light filled rooms, an auditorium for around 500 and adequate unlimited meeting rooms that were lecture style and comfortable. It had adequate parking under the building that was free for the conference. The conference served box lunches and there were restaurants nearby. The main advantage was that there were at least two excellent hotels less than a 2 miles away for around $100 a room including the Courtyard Marriott with parking. I report this for future reference and use although I heard it was expensive and I am trying to get costs from Nick Brana who arranged it. The crowd was predominantly young and white with a good age range, some seniors and people of color. Socialist Alternative (SA) was a sponsor of this conference and Kshama Sawant of Seattle called for a new party but it appeared that they were not there to build this coalition or a new party. The plenaries were about 200 people, the Friday night meeting was closer to 400 and most of the workshops were around 50 attendees. Continue reading

The time for the Illinois Green Party Fall Conference is almost upon us! This will be the second of our two statewide meetings in 2017. As the Fall Meeting falls within the ballot access period for some offices, this will also be a chance for members to meet our candidates for office in the 2018 cycle. Continue reading

Elections & Upcoming Meetings in New Orleans

Please join us in September and October, but note that these meetings are scheduled on Tuesday evenings, and in differing locations. Find details and RSVP on our website. Note that our August meeting was canceled on very short notice when the entire library system was shut down because of concerns about Hurricane Harvey. We apologize for the confusion. District A candidate Drew Ward asked to speak to our group, showed up at the closed library, and had an extended dialog in the parking lot with some frustrated library patrons! Continue reading

Black & Green Wednesday: The Unfolding Green Party

A few years after the Green Party began in Germany in 1980, differences arose between "fundis," who wished to stick to fundamental principles, and "realos," who focused on getting elected to office. This profoundly affected how German Greens acted once they were elected to office. Since the 1990s, Green organizing in the US has been at least as complicated on the national, state and local levels. Come hear from those involved in organizing Green Parties in Germany, the US, Missouri and St. Louis. Continue reading
