Happy 90th Birthday to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"I knew that I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without first having spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today: my own government." - Dr.  Martin Luther King Jr. Continue reading

Is the Government Shutdown a violation of the 13th Amendment?

The current Government Shutdown, the longest in US history, with no end in sight, is having multiple impacts across the country. It is impacting directly, 800,000 Government workers and their families, it is impacting million of Americans dependent on the services provided by these Government workers. For instance, Native Americans, who are dependent on the services that the Bureau of Indian Affairs provides, such as food support, housing support and other vital services are going without help or assistance. Further, this shutdown is impacting SNAP food and cash benefits allocation of funds and support, impacting millions of poor Americans who will go without or have services delayed. Continue reading

In 2019 we resolve to build a real Poor People’s movement!

As we face a hold on food stamps due to the government shutdown, pending cuts to housing, the mass incarceration of our youth, skyrocketing costs of healthcare, and an opioid crisis in our neighborhoods, it is time that we come together to announce our declaration of independence from the two political party system that has failed us and our families time and time again. The truth about Cuba and North Korea

If you had watched the U.S. president’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, you would have noticed one thing: Victim blaming.Trump has done what U.S. presidents have engaged in since the 1950s. Continue reading

House Democrats’ HR 1 – Faking the Funk on Voting Rights, Spreading Fear and Gunning For the Greens in 2020

It’s a new year, and Democrats running the House of Representatives under Nancy Pelosi, Jim Clyburn and Steny Hoyer need to rebrand themselves and prepare for the 2020 elections. So they’ve rolled out what they and their corporate media hacks are calling their flagship bill, HR 1, a 571 page monstrosity with dozens of empty promises they wouldn’t keep even if they could, along with a couple of serious threats against left dissenters in general and the Green Party in partucular that they just might. It’s not on the official House web site yet, but we read the version on the web site of its sponsor, congressman John Sarbanes of Maryland. Continue reading

The Green New Deal New York Needs, From Its Original Source

In outlining his agenda for the first 100 days of his third term, Governor Cuomo said in December he would launch a Green New Deal. I have been calling for a Green New Deal since 2010 in three Green Party gubernatorial campaigns against him. Cuomo has already nominally adopted a number of my platform planks, including the fracking ban, marriage equality, a $15 minimum wage, tuition-free public college, paid family leave, and legalization of marijuana. Unfortunately, the implementation of some of these measures fall short of full realization and the same appears to be true for what will be Cuomo's Green New Deal. Continue reading

Welcome to Paradise

In 1970, Joni Mitchell recorded the song, "Big Yellow Taxi." "Don't it always seem to go / That you don't know what you've got til its gone. / They paved paradise, put up a parking lot." In 2018, the town of Paradise, and much more, burned to the ground. Continue reading

Time to Rise Up ...

2019 must be a year of uprising and action. We must collectivly come together and take to the streets. We must organize, we must strategize, we must look at what must be done to change the tide of where things are going in this country and globally. Many things are looming on the horizon. Economists are telling us that an economic collapse is on the horizon, perhaps as soon as the end of 2019 if not sooner.  Continue reading

Hillary simply lost Black votes because of her own arrogance

Adam Peck, editor of ThinkProgress, obviously doesn't accept that the duopoly system has gone into self-destruct mode, nor that the Democratic Party has abandoned all pretense at being a force for progress. Instead he blames its woes on Jill Stein and the Green Party. His ThinkProgress article of December 22 begins: Continue reading

I just want to go back to work

I am a federal employee in Ogden Utah. I have a lot of backlogged bills and am receiving foreclosure notices. Although the shutdown was not the cause of some of my financial issues, it is making it difficult for me to consider financial options. I am the primary bread winner in my home so removing my income creates multiple struggles. I am having to ask family members and friends for money. Continue reading
