Greenline August 2019

Hello Greens! Our 2019 Annual Meeting was great! There were over 250 attendees with us for long weekend at Salem State University in Massachusetts. This is the largest Annual Meeting we’ve had in at least a decade and we’re very happy about that! If you were there, thank you for coming. If you weren’t there, we hope you were able to watch some of our livestreams and hope you’ll come to our 2020 Presidential Convention next summer.  This August issue of GreenLine is dedicated to reporting back on what happened at the Annual Meeting and to share lots of photos and links to videos that you can watch. I hope you enjoy the articles, photos and videos!  Peace, Starlene RankinGreenLine Editor Continue reading

The Annual National Meeting Committee (ANM) is now accepting Letters of Interest (LOI) for hosting locations for the 2020 Presidential Nominating Convention through May 12, 2019. Submitting a LOI does not obligate you to submit a proposal. Likewise, you do not have to send an LOI to submit a proposal by the deadline. It simply means you are receiving  more information about the application and hosting process. We hope that all applicants will be able to exhibit and deliver a very brief presentation at this year’s Annual National Meeting in Salem, MA, July 25-28, 2019. The final location will be chosen by the Green Party National Committee in August 2019. Here is a tentative schedule: Continue reading

Dismantle Border Imperialism! Fight, Create, Power to the People! Deanna Taylor's Notes on the Border Encuentro: I thought I would share what has been going on so far here in Nogales. Yesterday was a packed day.  We mingled with and met people from all around the country yesterday morning the Hotel Americana in Nogales. At 1:00 we caravanned to Tucson to protest Milkor USA (milkorusa.com - it's a disgusting website) at the subcontractor in Tucson, called Abrams Airborne Manufacturing. Milkor partnered with them to created the major components of the a 40mm multi-shot grenade launcher). The protest went well - there were about 200 people and George Martin was there! The Tucson Police actually came and helped out due to the crowd size and they even decided to shut down the part of the street we were on to do an impromptu march. Last month the Green Party of the United States held its 34th Annual National Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah. Over 170 Green Party leaders, as well as rank and file Greens, representing 41 states attended. We were also able to help 44 people from traditionally oppressed communities with registration waivers and direct financial assistance. We heard from Chase Iron Eyes, a member of the Standing Rock Tribe, about how he is facing six years in federal prison for “inciting a riot” by posting a prayer ceremony from the DAPL frontlines on Facebook. Talk about a small action having a mighty impact! Continue reading

Green Party News Green Party Members from Texas and Pennsylvania attended the 2018 ACLU Membership Conference held from June 10th-12th in Washington, D.C. Report submitted by: Joy Davis, National Green Party Outreach Committee Co-chair.  This was an exciting opportunity to network with other lawyers, activists, advocates, and those who share a passion for standing up and fighting back against injustices currently plaguing our society. Our youth shared their skills, voiced their concerns, listened to organizing success stories, and heard from exciting speakers! They were able to share their stories and connections with the lawyers, activists, and clients that actually have pending cases before the government. Greenline: The Green Party Build it NOW or Shut It Down!!!

From Darryl! Moch, Green Party Black Caucus Co-Chair: This year at the Annual National Meeting (ANM) in Newark, New Jersey, the Green Party of the United States experienced a tremendous boost in energy and in opportunity – and at the same time was faced with challenges that will lead to greater political maturation and inclusion. This ANM's attendance may have been the largest gathering of Greens (old, new, young, people of color, women, activists, political novices, political powerhouses, analysts, thinkers, movers and shakers, grassroots workers, and expert "rabble-rousers and troublemakers") – OUR people!!!! With all this energy and synergy going on you could expect some things to get stirred up. And a lot of good stuff was stirred up, for sure. Continue reading
