Waterford, CT – On Saturday, August 26, the Waterford Green Party (WGP) unanimously voted to adopt their 2017 Platform. The document outlines five areas in which they wish to see town policy change: local economics, environmentalism, infrastructure, education, and government transparency. Under each category, the party puts forth numerous ideas for how to improve town management, maintain a balanced budget in the face of Millstone’s potential closure, lessen environmental damage, improve the quality of the education given to our children, and more. In total, the 2017 platform lists 36 ways in which the party wishes to change town operations, and the WGP is confident that the vast majority of these common-sense proposed policies will be of interest to liberal, conservatives, and independents alike. The WGP was the only political party in town to release its own platform in both 2015 and so far in the 2017 election cycle, and it hopes that the town will consider its proposals as they head to the polls on November 7th, 2017. The Green Party of Pima County (GPPC) is running two candidates in the 2017 Tucson City Council Election. The two candidates, Michael Cease, and Michael Oatman, are both running in Ward 6, in the August 29, 2017 Primary Election. While most municipalities in Arizona have non-partisan elections, Tucson is unique because its elections for mayor and city council are partisan (candidates may run with a party designation, or run as an independent). On Saturday, July 22, 2017, the Green Party of Yavapai County (GPYC) held its Summer 2017 Organizing Meeting at the Prescott Public Library (Founders Suite meeting room) in Prescott, Arizona. Twelve Greens and supporters attended, and the meeting was facilitated by Arizona Green Party (AZGP) state co-chair Angel Torres. Prior to this meeting, there have been numerous unsuccessful attempts during the past several years to organize the Green Party in Yavapai County. After the group introductions and meeting role assignments, attendees agreed to the meeting agenda, and were briefed on the consensus decision-making process. Waterford, CT - On Monday, August 7, 2017, Waterford Green Party co-chairs met at Waterford Town Hall with seven petitions to file with the Town Clerk. Due to state regulations around elections, any party outside the Democratic and Republican parties that have not previously run candidates for that office in the previous election are required to petition in order to put their candidates on the ballot. This year, the Greens were required to receive at least 49 signatures from registered voters in town in order to make the ballot. The Waterford Greens were successful in this endeavor, filing over 60 signatures before this week's deadline. Continue reading
