Green Party candidate hopes to shake up Pittsburgh council

A Green Party candidate for the Pittsburgh City Council seat held by Anthony Coghill is hoping to capitalize on a progressive movement that propelled state Rep. Ed Gainey to a win over Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto last week. “People in Pittsburgh and across the country are beginning to realize we need bold change and we can’t wait for the same old boys to do it for us. We are here to make it for ourselves,” Connor Mulvaney said Tuesday evening. He was speaking at a kickoff to his campaign, livestreamed from the war memorial cannon in the city’s Brookline neighborhood Continue reading

Sebastianelli best choice for Senate

The lesson thus far of the special election campaign to replace Democratic former state Sen. John Blake is that Blake should not have resigned — especially without using his political capital to smooth the way for a competent successor. Blake, an effective legislator, uncharacteristically shirked his responsibility when he resigned recently and took a job as economic development policy director for U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright of Moosic. Blake cited personal matters and frustration with being in the minority at the Capitol. That’s understandable, but the solution is to serve out the term and retire rather than to leave a void. Continue reading

Longshots make the best winners

If Marlene Sebastianelli emerges after the May 18 special election as the new Pennsylvania state senator for the 22nd District, voters can finally expect a legitimate champion of the people. Current state Rep. Marty Flynn is the endorsed Democratic Party nominee for the job loyal Democrat John Blake held for years. Every political prima donna blessed by political bosses needs to get KO’d sooner or later. Continue reading

Edwin DeJesus for City Council

Running Green For NYC Council In District 22 Edwin DeJesus is an endorsed Green Party candidate for New York City Council and a very firm supporter of populist ideas such as Medicare for All, a Green New Deal and Universal Basic Income. He is running as a Green candidate to revive its platform after Gov. Cuomo passed legislation last year to destroy 3rd Party ballot access in NY. Ultimately, his campaign's mission is to build a path forward for Ranked-Choice Voting in ALL elections - not just the Democrat or Republican primaries. Continue reading
