Green Party Announces New Steering Committee Members

The National Committee of the Green Party of the United States has announced the election of four co-chairs and secretary. Trahern Crews and Kristin Combs were newly elected as co-chairs, joining Gloria Mattera and Tony Ndege who were re-elected to a second term. David Gerry was elected secretary. The election results were announced at the National Committee meeting in Salem, Massachusetts, on July 27. The new Steering Committee members were elected to replace steering committee members whose terms had ended, and join continuing members Anita Rios, Margaret Flowers, Justin Beth and Hillary Kane.

NEW LONDON, CT — Community organizer and author Frida Berrigan has begun collecting petition signatures for ballot access as she seeks the Green Party nomination to run for Mayor in the November elections. A newcomer to electoral politics, Ms. Berrigan has a long history of involvement, at the local and national level, in support of peace, social justice, and environmental responsibility.

The meeting will feature Green Party panels, workshops, meetings of the Green National Committee (not open to the media and public), and other events. Green candidates running in 2019 and 2020 and Green elected officials are expected to attend.

DENVER – The Green Party of Colorado (GPCO) expresses its solidarity with the radicals and leftists that staged a march and direct action against a privately-owned immigrant detention center in Aurora, CO, on July 12, 2019. This action was led by a coalition of immigrant justice activists, including the International Socialist Collective – Boulder, UCB and some of our own Green members. Green Party of Pima County victorious in ballot access lawsuit against city of Tucson
TUCSON, Az., July 5, 2019 — On June 12th the Green Party of Pima County (GPPC) filed a lawsuit against the City of Tucson for depriving the party of ballot status in the upcoming City elections. Late this Wednesday afternoon, July 3, the court order ruling was made from the Pima County Superior Court. In his order the judge overseeing the case, Hon. D. Douglas Metcalf, stated:
IT IS ORDERED that the Green Party’s petition for special action is GRANTED. The City of Tucson and its clerk abused their discretion and acted in arbitrarily and capriciously by not including the Green Party as a political party qualified for the August 27, 2019 primary election ballot.

PA Greens Demand 100 Percent Renewable Energy
Hundreds of Pennsylvanians from Erie to Philadelphia, and everywhere in between, converged on the capitol building in Harrisburg on June 19 for PA's largest Environmental Lobby Day. Chair Doug Mason, of the Centre County Green Party, said, “Citizens attending the Lobby Day came from more than 35 counties to call for a transition to 100 percent renewable energy on a timeline called for by the scientific community. Throughout the day, constituents visited more than 160 legislative offices, to discuss how this transition could tackle the climate emergency, save consumers money, and create clean-energy jobs.”
