Illinois Green Party candidates for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, Toneal Jackson and Mark Buettner, filed their petitions to get on the ballot for the 2022 General Election on Monday (3/14/22). The MWRD, which occupies most of Cook County, plus a few townships outside of Cook County, is the Illinois Green Party’s only recognized district. So while most Green candidates around the state begin petitioning in April, MWRD candidates began collecting signatures in January, at the same time as Democrats and Republicans and other third parties with recognized districts. Gov. Ned Lamont and Republican Bob Stefanowski won their party’s endorsements two weeks ago at the convention, but they’re not the only candidates running for governor. Last weekend, the Green Party of Connecticut endorsed Michelle Louise Bicking for governor and Cassandra Martineau as lieutenant governor. The Green Party doesn't have automatic ballot access which means it will have to collect 7,500 signatures to get Bicking and Martineau on the ballot in November. There are five candidates on the June 7 ballot who want to be elected attorney general. They are incumbent Rob Bonta, a Democrat appointed to the position last year; attorney/business owner Eric Early and general counsel Nathan Hochman, both Republicans; criminal defense attorney Dan Kapelovitz, a Green party candidate; and Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, an independent. The top two vote-getters will advance to a Nov. 8 runoff. The San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board sent each a 10-question survey and here are their replies. Howie Hawkins, the Green Party candidate for Governor of New York, will speak at the Eugene V. Debs Hall at 483 Peckham Street in Buffalo at 7 pm on Saturday, May 21. Hawkins will propose measures to reverse the institutional and cultural racism that propagated the white racist terrorist attack on Buffalo’s Black community on May 14 as well as the longstanding systematic imposition of inequality, poverty, and violence on Black communities.  Continue reading

Especially being a censored candidate and activist. However, I have to laugh because we already lost our reproductive rights here in Texas. The US Supreme Court's conservative majority is poised to overturn Roe vs. Wade using arguments that impose control over women's bodies that existed before the historic 1973 decision. Going back even to when slavery was allowed to exist. We must move forward. Slavery in any form should be outlawed, including having the power over a woman's right to choose to be pregnant or not. Justin Paglino is placing universal health care on the ballot again this November — with ranked-choice voting thrown into the mix. The two issues, he argued, are connected. Paglino is citing those issues as top priorities as he launches a second bid for the U.S. Third Congressional District seat, which represents New Haven and Hamden (among other communities). he has a bunch of other issues in his tank as well. On April 19, members of the Green Party of New York began soliciting the 45,000 voters’ signatures they need to gather in 42 days by May 31 to place the party’s gubernatorial ticket of Howie Hawkins for governor and Gloria Mattera for lieutenant governor on the ballot. Thanks to Democratic legislators who tripled the signature and vote requirements for ballot access at the urging of then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo as part of the state budget package in April 2020, New York now has one of the most difficult independent nominating petition systems in the nation and the world. Continue reading
