Green Party: President Trump and Congress must remove all barriers to emergency relief for Puerto Rico
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Green Party of the United States called on the White House and Congress to repeal the Jones Act and all barriers to emergency relief for Puerto Rico and provide massive aid for the island in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The devastation in Puerto Rico may be even worse than in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Virgin Islands have also suffered severe damage and need emergency aid.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Local and state Green Parties are running several strong candidates in well-organized campaigns for public office in 2017.
The Green Party of the United States welcomed Maine State Rep. Ralph Chapman, who announced his new membership in the Maine Green Independent Party on Thursday. Mr. Chapman is Maine's second Green in the Maine House of Representatives, following John Eder, who served from 2004 to 2006.

Rep. Chapman joins Maine Green Independents
After unenrolling from the Democratic Party this spring, Maine State Rep. Ralph Chapman announced Thursday he has joined the Maine Green Independent Party, becoming the only Green state representative in Maine, and the first since John Eder finished his term in the 122nd Legislature in 2006. In a letter announcing his enrollment with the Maine Greens, Chapman wrote, "I have joined the Maine Green Independent Party in order to highlight the democracy-diminishing effects of corporate funding influence on the statehouse party leadership of Maine's two largest political parties."

The Green Party of Utah Achieves Ballot Access
On September 18, the Green Party of Utah received notification from the Lieutenant Governor's office that we have met the 2,000 signature threshold to gain ballot access as a political party in Utah. This allows for Green Party candidates to appear on ballots in 2018/2020, and voters will be able to register to vote as Green beginning November 30. We were thrilled to hear this news, and believe this is a step forward for democracy in Utah as we try to offer voters not just more choices, but better choices than those presented by the political duopoly of the Democratic and Republican parties. This represents the better part of a year's worth of work, and we have had such a great time speaking with so many voters in our state!

Waterford, CT Green Party Nominating Petitions Approved, Pushes Platform
On Thursday, September 14, 2017, the Waterford Green Party received confirmation from the Secretary of the State of Connecticut's office that their nominating petitions were officially approved. Petitions were submitted before the state's August deadline for five of the nine candidates that the party is running in the 2017 municipal election.
Candidates required to petition to appear on the Green ballot line included Kevin Kelly (Board of Finance), Mike Buscetto III (Board of Assessment Appeals), Billy G. Collins (Zoning Board of Appeals), Andrew Frascarelli (RTM District 1), and Carl D'Amato (RTM District 4). Other candidates appearing on the Green ballot include Deb Roselli Kelly (Board of Education), Darcy Van Ness (Zoning Board of Education Alternate), Baird Welch-Collins (RTM District 2), and Joshua Steele Kelly (RTM District 3).
