George Floyd Anniversary

On the anniversary of George Floyd's death, here is a recent press release written by Green Party of Philadelphia GPoP City Committee member Justin Bell reacting to the Derek Chauvin verdict. I was sitting in traffic today on Roosevelt boulevard when the verdict came in: Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd. When I heard it I had trouble processing it. It wasn’t until my wife called me crying because she couldn’t believe it was real, that I started to believe it was real. After I got off I looked around to see if any other cars were listening or having reactions. I was disappointed that everyone looked miserable and wasn’t honking. For a moment I felt victorious. Overwhelmed by the power of the people who refused to get out of the way when the police told them to move. I saw two older ladies flanked by the National Guard during the height of COVID. One pushing the other in a wheelchair. They had put themselves in a situation of great risk and they had won. Continue reading

Members of the Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA)  joined in pro-Palestinian rallies that were held throughout the state on May 15. The Green Party joined other activist organizations such as Black Lives Matter; Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Coalition; Drexel Students for Justice in Palestine; New Afrikan Independence Party; Pittsburgh Anti-Imperialist League; and Jewish Voice for Peace, in solidarity to end the suffering of the Palestinian people. Remembering George Floyd

Anniversary of the Murder Of George Floyd, MN Green Party Demands Reforms Now! The murder of George Floyd by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin — who has been convicted of murder — and the response by the community afterward shook the world. The Green Party of Minnesota is glad that the family of George Floyd will visit the White House. However, some of our members would feel more safe going to work, having their children play, going to school, and raising children in Minnesota and across the United States if the state and the federal government would pass meaningful legislation for Black Americans. We Stand in Solidarity with the People of Palestine

SAN FRANCISCO – Today, May 15, is the 73rd anniversary of the Nakba, the day that changed the Palestinian people's history forever. The Nakbah (al-Nakbah; "catastrophe") marks the forced expulsion, dispossession, and displacement of the majority of indigenous Christians and Muslims, over 750,000 people from Palestine during the 1948 war. In reality, the Nakba has since solidified into an Israeli campaign of terror, ethnic segregation, land confiscations, and destruction of villages for Jewish settlement leading to a vanishing Palestine with over 7 million Palestinians living as refugees today. Governor Lamont, Tell the National Guard to Stand Down!

No Strikebreakers in Connecticut! Nearly 4,000 unionized healthcare workers at 33 nursing home and extended care facilities in Connecticut have voted to go on strike on Friday, May 14, if their demands for better wages and safer working conditions are not met. Another 6 facilities will go out on strike on May 28. They are members of District 1199 SEIU: only a few months ago these essential workers were being praised to the skies for their commitment and sacrifice, caring for elderly and disabled people in the places where Covid-19 has hit the hardest and been by far the most deadly. Signs thanking front-line healthcare workers for putting themselves at risk are still seen on front lawns all over Connecticut. Continue reading
