2019 Illinois Green Party Spring Convention

The Green Party is needed today more than ever. With both parties currently in power answering to big money special interests, only a party that rejects all big money special interest donations and stands for the 99% can help restore true democratic government in America. The Illinois Green Party holds two Membership Meetings each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. These meetings are our chance to conduct official, statewide business and to hold training and educational sessions, as well as panel discussions and keynote addresses from invited speakers. Support Senate Bill 141!

The United States takes pride in calling itself a "democratic" republic, with "free and fair elections." Yet Illinois election laws are fixed to give a huge advantage to the candidates of just two political parties, stifling all other competition. Such a system cannot justly be described as "democratic" or "free and fair." That is why the Illinois Green Party urges Illinoisans to speak up and take a strong stand in support of Senate Bill 141. Illinois has one of the most repressive, restrictive and grossly unfair ballot access laws in the United States. For example: Continue reading

PA Greens endorse Divest from the War Machine

The Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA) Steering Committee has endorsed and joined the new coalition, Divest from the War Machine. The purpose of Divest from the War Machine is "removing invested assets from companies that derive their profits from U.S. military interventions, the global arms trade, and the militarization of our streets." Alan Smith, co-chair of GPPA from Chester County, explained, "A year to the day before he was killed, April 4, 1967, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his "Beyond Vietnam" speech. On the anniversary of that speech, Code Pink and the Black Alliance for Peace with Ajamu Baraka, 2016 Green Party nominee for vice president, co-sponsored the new coalition, Divest from the War Machine." Michigan Green Cliff Yankovich Appointed to Lowell City Council

(LOWELL, MICHIGAN) Home to approximately four thousand residents, the City of Lowell is known for famous former residents including William Seward Burroughs I, who invented the adding machine and was the grandfather of ‘60s counter-culture beat writer William S. Burroughs, as well as vocalist Anthony Kiedis of the funk-rock outfit Red Hot Chili Peppers. Located in Kent County, Lowell has a classic Americana vibe, its downtown lined with storefronts and including a vintage showboat anchored just off the main street, as an eye-catching, downtown centerpiece. Hands off Venezuela

On Saturday, March 16, thousands of people will march in Washington, D.C. against the Trump administration's effort to engineer a coup in Venezuela. The aggressive policy against Venezuela repeats the ugly pattern of wars for regime change in the oil-rich countries of Iraq and Libya. National Security Advisor John Bolton is reading from the same script, declaring a "troika of tyranny" in Latin America (like the "axis of evil") as a precursor for regime change first in Venezuela, and then Cuba and Nicaragua. Trump has always said that the "mistake" of the Middle East wars was that the U.S. didn't "take the oil." Continue reading
