Confronting the Empire's War Agenda: The Struggle for Peace and Social Justice

Ajamu Baraka’s appearance in New Brunswick is part of a speaking tour of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut ahead of a national and international mobilization by a broad coalition of anti-war groups in the U.S. and around the world, calling for an end to NATO, an end to war and an end to racism, beginning with a march on Washington, D.C. on March 30th, 2019. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the formation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the extended arm of U.S. military aggression around the world. Because of the ongoing crisis in Venezuela the rally will have a focus on Venezuela, building on the February 23rd International Day of Action in Solidarity with Venezuela, in which over 130 communities world-wide participated. NATO partner Colombia has been playing a destabilizing role in Venezuela and continues to try to move “humanitarian aid” into the country with the aid of the U.S. Many aid agencies and others see this as nothing more than an invasion of the country by hostile countries. Demand a Hearing for SB 5222 - Universal Healthcare for WA State

Seattle, WA – Our current private/for-profit healthcare system is in crisis: 522,000 Washington State residents don’t have any healthcare coverage, many more are under-insured, and rates are going up 19% in our state this year. These stats represent real people and genuine hardship that requires urgent action. Healthcare is the number one concern of most voters, and there’s a solution supported by a majority. In Washington, more than 60% want a government-funded, universal healthcare option. Some legislators are listening. Senator Bob Hasegawa has filed SB 5222, to implement the Whole Washington Health Trust. If this bill passes, every single Washington resident would have quality care, including vision, dental, and mental health services. And there are some unique strengths about this bill to consider: Continue reading

One of the biggest challenges for local Green Party organizations is recruiting candidates. At this point in the election cycle, the topic should be foremost on our minds. How can you recruit quality candidates? It’s hard to find someone who is willing to run for office. It takes a lot of conviction to campaign, win and follow that up with successful administration. What are qualities of a strong candidate? How can we work with developing candidates to increase their knowledge and skills? Continue reading
