A Small Victory

First, I wanted to let everyone know that the bills we opposed in the state legislature, which aimed to hamper the removal of monuments to white supremacy, did not pass. This is a small victory, to be sure, but it's the first time our local group has looked at specific state legislation. We can see that there is much more to do if we are to advance a Green agenda through the legislative process. Second, I wanted to remind you that our special session on bylaws is coming up on Saturday. RSVP on our website. Bylaws are necessary for the progress and sustainability of our local Green Party chapter. In advance, please peruse these organizing ideas from the national Green Party. Continue reading

Tarrant Greens Monthly Membership Meeting Saturday, June 17th, 2:00 pm

Our Tarrant County Green Party June monthly membership meeting will be held on June 17th at Eva's Taco Shak on Fort Worth's Northside. 3401 N. Main Street. A couple of months ago, at one of our meetings, it was determined by consensus to reach out to a particular area of the county to investigate opportunities for service and, potentially, to make a larger impact on the political front. The Northside was chosen as the spot that we would try to gain more familiarity and to participate, as we can, in community activities of special focus on the Northside. Continue reading

Call for proposals for 2018 GPUS Annual National Meeting

We are requesting that any local or state party interested in hosting the 2018 Annual Meeting send a letter of intent before September 6, 2017. There will be an informational call in mid-September with all proposals due in mid-to-late October so voting can be done in November. We will have some time for locations to talk for a few minutes about their city at the Saturday plenary in Newark. After we have all those interested we can meet in Newark to discuss basic requirements. Or, if that is not possible, we will have a conference call. Keep the following in mind as you think about your location: Continue reading

National Women's Caucus condemns Duterte rape comments

The National Women's Caucus of the Green Party of the United States unreservedly condemns statements made by Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte last week. After declaring martial law, Duterte told troops: “For this martial law, and the consequences of martial law, and the ramifications of martial law, I and I alone would be responsible ... Just do your work. I will handle the rest. I will be imprisoned for you. If you rape three (women), I will say that I did it.” He later dismissed these remarks as "joking," but this is not the first time he has publicly "joked" about rape, even the gang rape of an Australian missionary who was subsequently murdered in a prison riot, saying he would have liked to "have been first in line." Nor was it merely talk when he looked the other way while his police force has murdered thousands of purported drug users and sellers, even claiming to have shot such persons himself. Tarrant County Green Party posts petition supporting Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity survey questions

In an article written recently by Sean R. Cahill, PhD and Harvey J. Makadon, MD, for the LGBT Health journal, it is reported that the Trump-Pence administration is eliminating the use of Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity (SOGI) questions on national surveys. They write: The Trump Administration recently removed sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) questions from a national aging survey, and decided not to add a sexual orientation category and a transgender identity field to a national disability survey as planned. These actions have raised concerns that the major expansion of SOGI data collection on surveys and in clinical settings, which has occurred in recent years, may be under threat. SOGI data collection is essential to understand lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) health and the extent to which LGBT people access critical social services, including elder and disability services essential for living in community.
